In the Reserve's territory it is possible to find many entrances of karst cavities that are accessible to expert speleologists: it is worth mentioning the well of the cave called Grotta dell'Elmo, which is definitely one of the most beautiful in the Karst region around Trieste, whose walls feature several recesses where rock doves nest.

The area near the Reserve has a great historical interest due to the presence of several "castellieri" that were built in the protohistory. The most visible and better preserved castelliere is that of Rupinpiccolo/Repnič; it was partially destroyed due to the opening of a quarry in the late 19th century, then it was restored by the Authority for the historical, artistic and ethno-anthropological goods.
