Before the foundation of Rome, farmers and shepherds went along the tracks where today the roads Salaria and Nomentana develop, leading their flocks from the mountains of Abruzzi to the coasts of the Tyrrheanian Sea: Virgil talks us about this town which is more ancient than Rome, in an area characterized by twelve hills between the Tiber Valley and the Lucretili Mountains. Very near to the capital, the Reserve includes some of the environments which survived the wild urbanization: they are still rich in natural aspects and in considerable archaeological and architectural evidences.
