A place for the soul, an alchemy of colours and aromas

It is the first Park in Sicily, occupying 80% of the island. A vaste network of paths, suitable for trekking and mountain-bikes, stretches among pines and holm oaks in the uncontaminated Mediterranean scrub. The landscapes' variety is linked to its volcanic nature: lava flows, volcanic lakes and hot springs. Dry-stone walls and terracing show ancient agricultural activities that are very important for biodiversity. In 2014 the "Pratica agricola della Vite ad Alberello" (Agricultural Activity of Head-trained Bush Vines) had been inscribed in the UNESCO list as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and in 2018, the "Paesaggio della pietra a secco di Pantelleria" (Dry-stone landscape of Pantelleria) had been listed in the Registro Nazionale dei Paesaggi Rurali Storici (National Register of Historic Rural Landscapes). Among wine, olives and capers cultivations, the dammusi appear, ancient houses with dry-stone walls and white dome-shaped roofs. Archeological areas are scattered across the island: settlements that belong to the Bronze Age, a XVI century BC village, unique megalithic tombs, a late Punic Acropolis and a late Roman settlement dating back to the V century AD.
