Guided Visits

Abbadia di Fiastra Nature Reserve is an ideal place to observe and study the evolution of the natural environment and the population living in the area: as a matter of fact, the territory is characterized by a number of monuments and environments which enable us to carry out a journey into the past: from the Roman Empire to its decadence, from the European Renaissance led by the Monasticism to the modern agricultural society. Together with the valuable historical and architectural monuments, the agricultural landscape is of particular interest, since it has preserved many characteristic elements of the past. The Selva is also important: it is the relict area of the ancient forests which in the past covered the hills of the Marches region.

The visits to the Nature Reserve and to its surroundings are organized by the Environmental Education Center of the Reserve with the help of specialized guides, who will lead the visitors through the following itineraries:

  • the Selva
  • the river Fiastra and the rural environment
  • the Cistercian monastic group of buildings and Chiaravalle di Fiastra Abbey with its museums
  • Urbs Salvia archaeological area (1st century AD) with the theater, the amphitheater, the walls, the temple with the portico painted in frescoes, the aqueduct reservoir, the "edificio a nicchioni", and the National Archaeological Museum
  • the medieval village and Urbisaglia fortress
  • Rancia Castle

The visit can be completed with the projection of audiovisual material about the natural environment and the Cistercian Abbey.
