In the Apennines of Liguria and Emilia, at an altitude of 1,330 meters on the western slope of Mt. Aiona, the extraordinary presence of small lakes of glacial origin has determined the birth of a Nature Reserve with specific management purposes, including: Agoraie, where four perennial small lakes of rare beauty and some seasonal lakes can be found, and Moggetto, or Stagno Lastro, very interesting for the fish fauna finding here an ideal habitat. The group of lakes of Agoraie of Sopra is without doubt the most interesting; among them, the characteristic Lago degli Abeti, that has been named after the presence on its bottom of several Silver Fir fossil trunks.
