Formed by 72 country hamlets scattered throughout the surrounding territory, Tortorici lies at the confluence of three streams whose waters have been for this town a source of joy and torment at the same time: they have ensured the fertility of the place and the water supply to the inhabitants, but they have also been the cause of disastrous floods. There are no precise news on the origins of this big town center, which already existed during the Norman period.
