Protected Areas in Venezuela
Instituto Nacional de Parques - INPARQUES has the task to run, preserve, and manage National Parks, Recreational Areas, and Natural Monuments, offering to the public various options to enjoy these areas through research activities, entertainment, education, and ecotourism.

National Parks
National Parks are vast areas including one or more ecosystems which are among the most important ones in the Country, or natural or landscape areas of national or international importance that have not been altered by men and where vegetation and wildlife, geomorphological conditions, and habitats are of particular interest as far as scientific, educational, and recreational activities are concerned.

Recreational Areas
Since its creation in 1973, Instituto Nacional de Parques has been dealing with the harmonization of the community entertainment needs through the management of a recreational areas system including at the moment 85 parks. These parks are situated in urban and suburban areas. In them, INPARQUES organizes a series of environmental information and education programs aimed at informing and sensitizing visitors through guided visits, ecological games, workshops, talks and exhibits on the importance of preserving and protecting the resources characterizing them.

Natural Monuments
They will be "regions, objects, living animal or vegetal species of aesthetic interest, historical or scientific value, which will be subject to a strict protection". They represent important instruments to identify individual natural values in areas and sites of small size for their biological uniqueness, physical importance, and aesthetic value.
