The "Garzaia" is an area extending for about 10 hectares situated on the orographic left side of the river Arno, in the municipality of Figline Valdarno.
The area's environmental value lies in two heron species nesting within the area which have been included in the Annex I of the Directive 2009/147/EC, namely the Little Egret and the Night Heron.
In accordance with the law 49/95 the municipality required on 23rd April 2001 the acknowledgment of the area as an A.N.P.I.L. (Protected Natural Area of Local Interest).
The Garzaia in Figline Valdarno belongs to a regional system of areas where herons usually nest, including Signa, Castelnuovo dei Sabbioni and the Lake Chiusi.
