The Spallanzani path (detail on www.appenninoreggiano.it) starts from Scandiano and arrives in San Pellegrino in Alpe crossing all the vegetation zones of the Reggio Apennines (hilly, mountainous, culminating). It is named after the Scandinavian scientist Lazzaro Spallanzani, a famous naturalist from Reggio in the eighteenth century who made a great contribution to the empirical method of science. The path is marked, in addition to the usual white and red CAI signs, by a butterfly symbol and by the initials SSP.
