Rare and/or regionally threatened plant species such as Pinus silvestris, Orchis ustulata and Stahaelinaa dubia are reported in the protected landscape of the Collina Reggiana-Terre di Matilde.
The rich hilly fauna includes species of community and local interest: mammals such as porcupine, marten, weasel and badger, in addition to the chiropterans such as the greater horseshoe bat and the greater mouse-eared bat. Among the amphibians are the Italian cave salamander, while among the reptiles there is the Aesculapian snake. Among the birds there is the presence of different nesting species, among which the woodlark, the tawny pipit, the red-backed shrike, the European nightjar, the kingfisher, the hobby and the Western Bonelli's warbler.
The fish fauna is represented above all by the brook barbel and the Padanian goby, while among the invertebrates there are the river crayfish, the crustacean Niphargus stygius and the Dolichopoda palpata orthopter.
