Trezzo sull'Adda - Porto d'Adda

Itinerary 7

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Hystory

From Trezzo town center, take via Valverde going down to the river by crossing the old medieval village which, dominating the castle, reminds us the structure of the Roman "castrum".
The park of the Castle is open every day; if you want to visit the castle inside, there are guided visits organized by Trezzo Local Tourist Board.
The same Tourist Board also organizes, on the first Sunday of every month, guided visits to Taccani power plant, a very beautiful Liberty-style monument of industrial archaeology you will find on the right as soon as you get to the river.
Walking along the embankment, you will have the opportunity to observe the river flora and wildlife and reach Porto d'Adda, a country hamlet of the Municipality of Cornate, where you will find two hydroelectric power plant, still working. The first one is Esterle, which with its 24,720 kilowatts is the most powerful power plant of the medium course of the river Adda. Farther on, you will find Bertini power plant, inaugurated in 1898 to supply Milan with electric energy. They both exploit the strength of the water of Naviglio of Paderno, with its system of locks. Walk along it until you reach a small bridge, where the staircase leading to the small and characteristic Sanctuary of Madonna della Rocchetta begins.
