If we decide to carry out a hike or a simple walk within the Park, we have to consider that the animals living there are wild and not used to the human presence: therefore, we must try not to disturb them.>>>
The territory of the Dune Costiere da Torre Canne a Torre San Leonardo Regional Park houses - besides many flora and fauna species - a great amount of goods of historical-archeological interest. Among them there are the Dolmen, the rural churches with their centuries-old history, underground olive oil mills and rock settlements such as crypts, dwellings, stables and sheep pens obtained from the caves on the sides of the "lame" running up to the sea. Many of these points have been connected to build a historical-archeological itinerary within the Environmntal Park (EPA) Project financed by the Operational Programme of European Territorial Cooperation between Italy and Greece 2007/2013
The protected natural area is surrounded by the ancient route of the Via Traiana which crosses the territory of Ostuni and Fasano up to reach the harbor of Brindisi. Today this route is indicated as a long-distance itinerary for the cycle traffic (itinerary No. 6 of Bicitalia).
Many "lame" cut through the plain of the centuries-old olive trees rich in rock settlements such as the underground olive oil mills, the rural churches, the stables and the jazzi (sheep pens).
