The Park extends over plain areas crossed by a wide network of water courses developing within the hydrographic basin of the river Tormo, which is characterized by being made up of spring waters. Many springs - significant testimonies of the ancient rural landscape - have been registered only within the park area, which connects the wider "spring belt" of the plain in the Lombardy area (North) and the river Adda (South). The areas are mostly agricultural and used as forage cultivations - spontaneous meadows are a typical feature - because livestock breeding and milk production are the main activities of this area: in Pandino (first municipality in the Park) there is a school for dairy farming of national importance. The PLIS is rich in nature as well as architectural important features, such as the castle of Pandino, which belonged to the House of Visconti, and the archaeological area and Romanesque "pieve" (that is a typical medieval rural church) of Palazzo Pignano.
