This section starts in Alviano, towards Guardea. After 2 km on an asphalted road, turn left and take the scenic unsurfaced road that overlooks the valley. From Guardea, follow the asphalted road for 1 km towards Cocciano, until you get at the junction with the Alviano-Guardea trail. Turn left towards Poggio Vecchio, where, next to the castle, you can enjoy a beautiful view over Alviano Lake; then walk on northwards, on a path that runs along woods and meadows and finally joins an asphalted road after 1.5 km. Keep left for a few metres, then go downhill to Fosso La Rota; from here, walk uphill until you get to an asphalted road next to a spring. Go on downhill for another 2 km, cross the Fosso della Selvarella; a few metres further, a tree-lined pathway that goes slightly downhill will lead you to the national road SS 205. Walk on it only for a hundred metres, towards Baschi, then, on the left, take the ring-shaped trail leading to the entrance of Alviano Sanctuary (see the enclosed description). From here, go to Madonna del Porto, where you will find a refreshment room in the Sanctuary's Museum. Then follow the gravel-road that crosses the Fosso della Selva and the hamlet of Pupigliano, until it joins a scenic cart-road that overlooks Alviano's gullies. After enjoying the view, walk on until you get at a junction; take the asphalted road, walking uphill for 3.5 km, until you get back at the starting point.
