Popular medicine is a kaleidoscope of very interesting knowledge in the fields of botany, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, anthropology, in the use of plants in cooking, and represents a precious resource for future generations.
...Not only herbs from our mountains, but also vegetables and ingredients for cooking, remedies of animal and mineral origin, and empiric but efficient treatments. Some remedies are characteristic of Susa Valley, and in particular of its upper section, like the juniper lüstré. Such original features deserve further attention in scientific studies. This work, the result of a project for the recovery of the traditional treatments of Piedmont started by the author Loredana Matonti in the year 2000 and still ongoing, is only the first piece of the mosaic of knowledge of our Valley, elaborated with effort by our ancestors according to millenary experiences and that today, recovered in this way, represents again a precious heritage for our health and the recovery of our cultural identity.
