Regional Law no. 19/2009 "Testo unico sulla tutela delle aree naturali e della biodiversità" (Unified Code on the Safeguard of Natural Areas and Biodiversity) has established the Park Authority of the Cottian Alps Protected Area and, among the establishment aims of the authority, the following are included: "the promotion of the social and sustainable use of the area, as well as the promotion of culture and environmental education; the promotion of didactic activities and the support to every kind of school and university on the environmental issues and on education to sustainability…"
To this aim, with Extraordinary Commissioner Decree no 34 of 14th May 2012, the management methods of the various facilities offered by the new Authority with the relative fees have been defined:
The library of Gran Bosco Park is situated in the Documentation Center "Spazio Escartons" next to the Park Head Offices in Via Fransuà Fontan, 1 in Salbertrand. The library consists of over 1,000 volumes mainly dedicated to Environment, Nature, History, Traditions, Local Language and Culture, as well as degree theses, magazines, videos, and the herbarium collecting all the vegetable species growing in the Park. The library is open in office times from Monday to Friday and, during the summer, also on Saturdays and Sundays.
Since 2003, the Park Authority has joined Pinerolese Library System, offering a useful and important service of cataloging and online integration of the volumes.
