The Civic Museum "Antonio Collisani", established in November 2003 by the Petralia Sottana Town Council, is located in the restored premises of the former fifteenth-century prison.
The two-storey structure, which still retains traces of its original function in the splendid, masterfully interwoven two-tier grates, houses two sections: the Geological and the Archaeological.
The two exhibition spaces were created at two different times, in 2004 the geological section was inaugurated on the occasion of the international meeting of the European Geopark held in Petralia Sottana, and the archaeological section in 2008 with the exhibition of the precious "Collisani Collection".
Inside the Collisani Museum there is the Petralia Sottana Geopark Museum
built thanks to an agreement between the Madonie Park Authority, the Department of Geology and Geodesy of the University of Palermo and the Municipality of Petralia Sottana, which houses collections of rocks and fossils from the Madonie area.
Opening times:
Mornings: Monday to Friday from 8.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
Afternoons: Monday-Wednesday from 3.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.; Tuesday-Thursday-Friday from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday from 3.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
