Only recently rediscovered by nutritionists around the world, the tomato is now one of the foods strongly recommended for a healthy, balanced diet: it is rich in water, low in calories, with a good supply of minerals and trace elements, and contains all the water-soluble vitamins.
Siccagno tomato plants are grown in the municipalities of the Sicilian hinterland, specifically in Valledolmo, Sclafani Bagni, Alia Vallelunga and Villalba. It is called 'Siccagno' because it is grown dry, i.e. without water. Since it is not irrigated, the plant is rustic with few and relatively small fruits. But the organoleptic and nutritional elements (vitamins, sugars and antioxidants) are highly concentrated in them. These varieties are grown in the dry, according to a technique that is now well established in the area, which, together with exposure to the sun, produces a tomato with low calories (only kcal/100g) and rich in antioxidants, such as lycopene, beta carotene (vitamin A) and vitamin C.
