The urban geological trail was built to enhance the Isnello Gorge, a geological site that well represents an important fluvial phenomenon. This is characterised by a wide valley incision of the waters of the Isnello Torrent, creating this "narrow passage" by acting on the calcareous dolomitic rocks of the Dominio Panormide, dating from the Upper Triassic to the Lower Jurassic period. The "Gorge" separates the Isnello built-up area from the highest walls of the Pizzo Dipilo Massif.
