A visit to the archaeological park of Grumentum, located within the Appennino Lucano National Park, is one of the stops not to be missed for tourists in Basilicata. The site of Grumentum represents one of the few cases in Italy, along with Pompeii, Herculaneum, Ostia and a few other examples, where one can admire the remains of an extraordinary historical archaeological heritage, perceiving the shape of a typical Roman city that was abandoned and never resettled: at a glance, it is possible to understand the entire extension of the urban area, the urban layout and the differentiation between public and private spaces.
