The Park, in its current structure, was born at the end of 2011, from the union between Stirone River Regional Park and the Piacenza's Geological Nature Reserve. The Stirone Area is located between the provinces of Parma and Piacenza, in the municipalities of Fidenza (PR), Salsomaggiore Terme (PR), Alseno (PC) and Vernasca (PC), and develops on the sides of the stream, with a width average of about 1 km, from La Villa, upstream, to the bridge on via Emilia, in Fidenza. The Piacenza area develops throughout Piacenza and protects the nine stations of the former reserve, physically separated from each other, distributed in five different valleys and falling in the Municipalities of Castell'Arquato, Lugagnano Val d'Arda, Vernasca, Gropparello and Carpaneto Piacentino. The whole Park is of extraordinary importance from a paleontological point of view, thanks to the remarkable presence of fossiliferous findings from the Tertiary and Quaternary era, brought to light by erosive processes, which made the Park known to the international scientific world.
