Stagno

Strategically positioned in the Limentra Valley, this hamlet has ancient origins. There used to be a medieval castle in Stagno that served to control the border between Bologna and Pistoia; it suffered numerous attacks and destruction and no trace of it remains today. Construction elements that were typical of mountain architecture can still be seen in various houses throughout the village. You can also see what's left of the old cobbled mule tracks that passed through here. An amazing vista opens up over Lake Suviana from the square behind the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, which was first referred to in a document dated 1131 and rebuilt in the 1700s.
