Parco Naturale del Ticino

The volume is dedicated to the otter reintroduction project in Ticino Park, from its origins (dating back to 1988) to the current results achieved with the freeing of a couple of otters in Ticino valley.
It is the report of the activities carried out in these years at Bosco Vedro, the special nature reserve welcoming the Park otters, with all the most significant events that have characterized the project and have given the Park otter center the opportunity to become one of the most important European centers for the conservation and safeguard of this aquatic mammal, which is becoming rare in the rivers of our continent.
A long chapter is dedicated to the reintroduction of the otter in Ticino Valley with the study to test the environmental suitability of the Valley to house the otter, the choice of the specimens to reintroduce, and the thorough study of the couple habits, to follow the animals in their moves after the release.
The conclusions regard the future of the project with the freeing of further couples of otters and a thorough study on the success of the project.
