Valle del Lambro Park has been established with Regional Law n. 82 of 16th September 1983.
At the moment of the establishment it included 33 Municipalities and the Provinces of Milan and Como. With the Regional Law 1/96 the Municipalities became 35 (with the Municipalities of Correzzana and Casatenovo joining the Consortium), and the new-born Province of Lecco joined too. It currently covers an area of 8.107 ha out of which 4.080 belong to the nature park.
Its territory extends along a 25 km-long stretch along the river Lambro, between Pusiano and Alserio lakes in the north and Parco della Villa Reale di Monza in the south.
The Park territory includes the hilly stretch of the river Lambro and has different features along its route.
The area of the lakes is the most interesting from a naturalistic point of view, since it includes lake environments which are already safeguarded in part by Riserva naturale orientata della Riva Orientale del Lago di Alserio.
As a matter of fact, both lakes are Sites of Community Importance (SCI).
