In Bergeggi the via Aurelia, high above the sea, offers charming views on the underlying cliffs rich in caves and small inlets and towards the island included in the regional nature reserve. On the small island, a suggestive cone of calcareous rock partially covered by Mediterranean maquis, man settled since ancient times. Seat of monastic communities, there are ruins of military and religious buildings and the rests of another building, probably a lighthouse dating back to the Roman period. The water and seabeds surrounding the island will soon be safeguarded by a marine reserve.
