The Ecology Museum and Visitor Center of Bosco di Scardavilla Nature Reserve
was inaugurated in November 2003; after some years of renovation works financed by
Servizio Parchi e Risorse Forestali of
Regione Emilia-Romagna and the Municipality of Meldola, the renovation of the precious 16th century church called "della Madonna del Sasso" has been completed. The church houses the multipurpose center.
The structure, situated within the historical town center of Meldola, near the medieval Fortress, consists of three sections dedicated to:
- a naturalistic museum with exhibit of geological, mineralogical, and palaeontological finds and floral-wildlife and mycological finds placed into display cabinets and showcases
- a place for school educational activities, conferences, and workshops, thematic temporary exhibits, equipped with instruments for scientific experiments and multimedia communication
- an environmental info point for the documentation on the Nature Reserve and the other protected areas of the provincial, regional, and national territory.
