As far as the state of environmental conservation of Filicudi is concerned, we can repeat the same things we have said for Alicudi, since the two islands share the same geographical position. Called by Latins Phoenicodes and Phoenicussa, the origin of this name is controversial: the hypothesis that it was rich in palms of the genus Phoenix is remote; other hypotheses refer to the presence of Phoenician settlements. Anyway, it is more likely that the name derives from the ferns, growing luxuriant in this place.
