This protected area reserves many surprises to naturalists: wonderful specimens of Tree Heath, at the foot of Mt. Scuderi, grow together with all the species of Downy Oak known in Sicily, covering the valleys and the lower areas of the reserve. Another feature is represented by the torrents: real geological labs in the open air in which a multitude of pebbles of different mineral origin tell the tale of the bowels of the earth and of the physical nature of Peloritani mountains.

It is a medium-size phasianid: males can weight even 600 grams and are bigger than the females. Moreover, unlike the females, they have ergots on the claws.
