History, Landscape, and Man

The territory of Fiumedinisi e Monte Scuderi reserve belongs to the privileged area - for the rich investments that could be made here (minerals, woodland, olive groves, mulberry groves, and wheat) - which, in the period between the Norman and Spanish conquest, was quarreled over by the most powerful families from Messina and Taormina, as well as by the coenobies of the Basilian monks (among which those of Itàla and Forza d'Agrò, outside the reserve, that can still be visited) which were independent from political influence.
