It includes the archipelago of Egadi Islands formed by three islands: Favignana, the largest island with a surface area of 33 square km, Marettimo with a surface area of 12 square km, and Levanzo with 10 square km, as well as some islets like Formica islet with Maraone rock and Porcelli rock. The zonation of the vegetable populations in the infralittoral zone and in the three main islands is influenced above all by the nature of the substratum. The infralittoral stretch is characterized everywhere by Cystoseira stricta except for a few biotopes in Marettimo, where it consists of Cystoseira mediterranea and Cystoseira elegans. Moreover, there are also large Posidonia oceanica beds covering most of the submerged area of the archipelago. Great variety of animal populations given to the dynamism of waters, the depth and nature of the substratum.
