The place name "Cammarata" probably derives from the Italian words "camera" (meaning "room"), "grotta" (meaning "cave"), a cavity existing in Mt. Cammarata. The homonymous rural town lies on a picturesque cliff (689 m above sea level) with steep slopes, on which the castle with the "cut off tower" stands out. On the other slope of the mountain, also called Gemini (meaning "twin", for its double ridge), the town of San Giovanni Gemini rises, a beautiful place characterized by a flourishing agricultural activity.
