Mt. Cofano is a promontory deriving from the uprising of imposing marine calcareous deposits of the Triassic period: the several animal fossils contributed to form the scaffold of this mountain (659m above sea level). The mountain mainly consists of carbonate rocks (calcite, aragonite, and dolomite rock), of karstic nature.

On Mt. Cofano there are different natural environments: the rocky environment, the grassland dominated by Ampelodesma, the garigue dominated by Fan Palm and Tree Spurge. Moreover, there are rare stretches of arboreal vegetation consisting of ilex trees, a small seasonal wetland, and a torrential ravine.
