Does Panarea derive from the weathering of a big structure or from all the eruptive activities originating from the same magma basin? Scientists are more inclined to think that the second hypothesis is true, even if, after accurate underwater surveys, they have not found anything demonstrating the existence of a single eruptive center.

As in the other islands of the archipelago, the vegetation has adapted here to particular environmental conditions. As a matter of fact, the volcanic soil, the influence of the sea, the small size of the island, the human pressure, and the climate influence the presence of the flora and lead some species to develop adequate features in order to adapt.

The tale of the Sicilian lizards is a complex and fascinating one. In the past, only one genus was considered: Lacerta. Subsequent research activities have highlighted some inner features distinguishing these animals. According to them, two genera have been discovered: Lacerta and Podarcis.
