This island is the ancient Euònymos ("lying on the left" or the unlucky) of the Greeks: its name derives from Panaria, as it was called by the geographer form Ravenna. However, the etymology is not certain, there are various hypotheses: the damned, many holes, spongy, without streams. Together with the aits and cliffs surrounding it, it forms a tiny archipelago.
