The itinerary leaves from the parking area of the Visitor Center and it develops in its first part on the road which goes along the southern stretch of the Canale Averto; it is advisable to go through it by bike up to the Cancello a Mare (about 3,200m).
Along this itinerary it is possible to observe the vegetation of the sandbanks and the bird species which prefer the deep waters: among them, the most frequent ones are the grebes, the little grebes, and several species of mute swans which can be seen with their chicks.
After about two kilometers you reach the sea, from where - if the sky is clear - it is possible to see all the coast delimiting the Gulf of Trieste and part of Istria.
Turn right, and by following the bank you will reach the Reserve and a gate where you will enjoy the view of an uncontaminated stretch of beach, whose waters are often populated by several species of herons, coots, and other seabirds.
By following the sea bank towards the East, the best trained and most willing cyclists can reach, after a few kilometers, the locality Caneo and the typical village of Punta Sdobba, at the mouth of the river Isonzo.
