The Natural Protected Area of Local Interest Costiere di Scarlino belongs to the rural-forest regional property called Bandite di Scarlino, and it includes a coastal hill system situated between the sites "Padule di Scarlino" north and the plain Pian d'Alma south. The hill system follows the parallel coastal line, with small reliefs a little higher than 200 m above sea level (Poggio la Guardia, Poggio Sentinella) almost completely covered with forests. Holm oaks and the high Maquis are prevalent.
