The caves disclose an enchanting subterranean landscape. The strength of the karst erosion on the limestone of the Upper Cretaceous period is documented here in all its power. Fossil finds are the evidence that the caves represented a first and safe shelter for the man of the Upper Paleolitic period (about 40,000 years ago).
They consist of a series of galleries, saloons, tight passages, and wells creating unique places: the Castle Room, the Crocodile Room, the Vegetables Room, the Pagoda are only a few examples. The symbol of the town is represented by the late 13th century watchtower. Moreover, in the town center it is possible to observe interesting stone portals, ancient churches, monasteries, and the ruins of the ancient castle.
