Sasso Simone e Simoncello Park was born to protect
an extraordinary area as far as landscape and natural environment are
concerned. The big forest of Turkey oaks, the impressive size of the
two Sassi and of Monte Carpegna together with the variety of many
habitats and the bright landscape, which is very interesting from a
geological point of view, offer to the park and to its visitors a
valuable wealth to keep jealously. The magic atmosphere of the park,
its inhabitants, the lively silence of forests and meadows can surprise
and fascinate everyone, even the most inattentive tourist.
The
beauty of the park reaches its peak during the change of season. In
spring meadows are colored and orchids bloom while in summer forests
are flourishing. In Autumn the park is fragrant with mushrooms and moss
while in winter the landscape is covered from a white blanket where
wild animals leave their mark.
The historic events which happened in the area of the park are related to the old territory of Montefeltro as well as to beautiful fortifications, towers, castles, churches and parishes which still stand in the area nowadays. Unfortunately, on Sasso Simone it is no more possible to see the fortress-city commissioned by the Medici Family from Firenze. It was abandoned after some decades characterized by a hard life. All you can see now are some stones covered by moss and ferns.
