The Cave Trail starts in the Porto Giunco beach and leads to the homonymous tower which was built during the 16th century by spanish people to defend the coast from the turkish-barbarian invasion.
From here it is possible to admire the wide sand dunes of Porto Giunco and the lagoon environment of the Notteri spond, an oasis where pink flamingos (Phoenicopterus ruber) take refuge in during their migrations.
The tower overlooks a part of the sea where colors range from iridescent to cobalt blue, from turquoise to green. Than one can go on through the thick environment mainly consisting of junipers (Juniperus phoenicea), Pistacia lentiscus, Olive (Olea Europaea) and thorny brooms (Calycotome spinosa).
From the tower of Porto Giunco the trail continues towards Cala Burroni, in the west slope of the Capo Carbonara headland. The directional panels allow hikers to easily locate the trails and, thank to the didactic panels, it is possible to learn more about history and environmental features.
