The MPA is responsible for the monitoring of the whole marine and coastal area, through surveillance and safeguard services. It carries out scientific research activities thanks to the support of the University of Cagliari, to which the old lighthouse of Isola dei Cavoli has been entrusted as logistics office. It promotes the training of specific professional characters and several initiatives at a local, national, and international level, with the aim to enhance the natural and human resources of the Marine Area.
The Marine Protected Area offers all the tourist services.
Tours, diving activities with aqualung, recreational tourism, rental of nautical means, guided visits... all you might wish to spend special and unforgettable holidays.
In a charming and uncontaminated panorama, you can find hotels, tourist villages, campsites, bed and breakfast, and holiday houses able to meet the strong demand for accommodation structures.
In particular, with 28 accommodation structures including Hotels, Residences, and Tourist Villages, Villasimius offers about 5,800 beds. It reaches the 7,000 beds if we consider Holiday Houses and Bed and Breakfast.
In Villasimius town center you will find all kinds of shops, banks, chemist's shops, cafés, ice-cream parlors, tobacconists, newsstands, bakeries, and confectioner's shops.
Along the coast, not far from the town, you can find pubs and discos, restaurants and pizzerias for all tastes and occasions.
Besides the various local diving centers, the new Tourist Port of Villasimius offers a great support in this sense.
As a matter of fact, it is an essential structure for the activities of the Institution, and the largest and most advanced docking point of the whole south-eastern coast of Sardinia.
The Tourist Port of Villasimius is the main reference point for sea-lovers.
It offers high-quality facilities for yachtsmen and boats, filling stations, drinking water and electric energy supply directly on the spot.
It can welcome 750 boats, up to 25m long.
The small port also represents an exclusive departure point to carry out tours in the Marine Protected Area: to Isola dei Cavoli, Serpentara, and Cala Pira.
There are also Information Offices and boat garaging service, as well as monitoring service and a detached office of the MPA, a few steps from the dock.
