Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve, established in 1983, is part of the protected areas system of Lazio. It covers a surface area of 2,892 hectares in the Town of Acquapendente, at the border with Umbria and Tuscany. It safeguards wide areas of wood in a hilly landscape where the river Paglia runs. Mixed oak woodlands dominate the area, where it is also possible to find Mediterranean maquis and reforestations with conifers; moreover, it houses a very rich flora and fauna, with many rare species.
