After a walk along the paths of the territory you cannot miss a pause to taste the local products in an "Osmiza" or in a holiday farm. The presence and the opening of these places is marked by the branch placed on the main crossroads to lead people to the osmiza. Here visitors can taste the local wine and home-made cold dishes such as cold cuts, cheese, in-oil and pickled vegetables.
The origin of the osmize dates back to the times of the Empress of Austria Maria Theresa in 1784, when she authorized the farmers to serve and sell wine for a period of eight days. The noun "osmiza" comes from the Slovenian "osmica", meaning "osem", that means "eight".
